But will they buy Green?

But will they buy Green?

I was recently reminded of the power of the Green Revolution. There is a ready market for green products. Without disputing the claim or rehearsing the ecological reasons for environmentally friendly products, a caution occurred to me.

People buy on impulse for their own emotional reasons–fear, pride, hope, greed, whatever. A seller of a Green product may often rely on certain customer emotions in his or her favor. The buyer may want to help out environmental causes. But there may be other emotions involved in the process, other motives. These may reinforce or conflict with the environmental ones.

In case of conflict, a buyer may fear the price is too high in comparison with the non-Green competitor product. Or a non-Green product may be more available. Or offer benefits the Green product does not. Or the Green product may not meet many people’s needs.

Those wishing to make a profit from Green products must take these into consideration to make a profit.
